Daisy is a single mom in Oxnard with a 6-month old baby. For the past year she lived with her family of six in a one-bedroom apartment after their larger one was destroyed by fire last Christmas season. She is working fulltime for a caregiver agency and taking a break from her community college classes to enter the medical field. 

Most fieldworkers we know have difficulty doing any business that involves having credit. They do not have bad credit, just NO credit. Daisy wanted to start building hers, so we went to US Bank where they walked her through the process, took her application for a secured credit card ($300) and awarded it to her within two weeks. We loaned her the money in this case since she had a job and repaid it via Zelle before her credit card arrived. The bank representative explained the benefits and pitfalls of using a credit card. Use the card for things you already buy/need. Pay the bill as soon as you get it. Repeat. Soon you have a credit foundation upon which to build more.
